The Sonic Boom Simulator (SBS) is a facility for studying human response to sonic booms experienced in an outdoor environment.
- Accurate playback of measured and simulated sonic booms
- Frequency range: 0 – 5000 Hz
- Peak boom overpressure: 6.5 psf (311 Pa)
- Four subwoofers (Dayton Titanic Mk III)
- Four midrange loudspeakers (AUDAX PR170Z0)
Types of Testing
- Subjective reaction to sonic boom noise in a controlled environment
- Accommodates one listener at a time
- Has been used to explore subjective response to different boom shaping concepts
