The Acoustics Research Laboratory for aircraft noise research ...
The Acoustics Research Laboratory (ARL) provides the principal focus for acoustics research at Langley Research Center. The building houses the offices of the Structural Acoustics Branch and several of the major acoustic research facilities.. The primary research facilities include a 20 ft. x 24 ft. x 30 ft. anechoic quiet-flow facility with two open-jet wind tunnels, a 21 ft. x 31 ft. x 15 ft. reverberation chamber, a two-chamber aircraft sidewall noise transmission measurement facility, and the human-response-to-noise laboratories. The ARL is used to conduct acoustic studies of aircraft components and models and to conduct subjective acoustic studies that involve actual test subjects.
